*the shared art/creative workshop space in beirut
yalla join us on the amazing adventure! we need people to make this happen and you need this place too :)
>>> Here is our manifesto (discussed/written at the last meeting):
Beirut Art Space Manifesto – A Project of RootSpace
We are creating a community space to help artists and creative people do their work, pursue their passion, perfect their craft, and share their ideas and expertise.
The basic concept is to have a member-governed cooperative where artists can collaborate, share equipment (such as dark-rooms, easels, wood-work equipment, technical equipment, pottery wheels, etc), and do their work.
Our community operates according to core values of mutual respect, sharing, environmental responsibility, embracing creativity, cooperation, and the concept of “do it yourself (DIY)”. We believe this community is part of our shared global community.
We are inclusive. Anyone is welcome. Members can be of any age, any group, and do any kind of art, and the space will welcome people with physical disabilities or special needs. Members pay fees to be part of the community (tentatively ranging from $20-200 per month), but nobody is excluded due to financial constraints. People who have financial limitations can help us run the space, volunteering, etc. We believe everyone can contribute to the ongoing success of the space.
This project is hosted by RootSpace, but all members who have demonstrated their commitment and respect to the space for 3 months become full members of the community, and automatically become part of the decision-making member board. Within legal/financial limitations, even this Manifesto can be changed by the community of members.
The space will include shared/open workspaces, private workspaces, special workshops (woodworking, dark-room, etc), a café/gallery space, a library, and a classroom space. We hope to expand to include spaces for music/performing arts, and cooperative housing.
Sharing is caring! :-)
